Redmi K50 Gaming Edition has been launched in China. As the name goes, it succeeds the Redmi K40 Gaming Edition handset from 2021. While the K40 Gaming remained exclusive to Chinese markets, it was rebranded as the POCO F3 GT (review) in the global markets. Hence, it is speculated that the K50 Gaming may debut with the POCO F4 GT moniker in the first half of 2022 in international markets, including India.

The gaming-centric Redmi phone offers key features such as a 120Hz OLED display, Snapdragon 8-series chipset, 120W fast charging, and gaming trigger keys. Here is all the information on its specifications, features, and pricing.


Redmi K50 Gaming Edition specifications and features


The Redmi K50G has a 6.67-inch OLED display with a centrally positioned punch-hole. The FHD+ display delivers a 120Hz refresh rate, a 480Hz touch sampling rate, 1,920Hz PWM high-frequency dimming, DCI-P3 colour gamut, and 10-bit colours. In addition, it comes with Gorilla Glass Victus protection. Like the predecessor model, the K50 Gaming has a side-facing fingerprint scanner.


The front side of the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition features a 20-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls. Its rear-facing triple camera unit is headlined by a 64-megapixel Sony IMX686 primary camera. It is coupled with an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens with a 120-degree FOV, a 2-megapixel macro camera and an LED flash. The camera unit is flanked with RGB-light accents like the predecessor model. The Redmi K50G runs on Android 12 OS, which is overlaid with MIUI 13.


The Redmi K50G features the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 mobile platform. It ships with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The device is equipped with a 4,860mm2 vapour chamber unit for heat dissipation unit. As compared to the predecessor model, it offers 40 percent better heat dissipation. Despite housing a large battery of 4,700mAh battery, the K50 Gaming Edition sports a slim profile of 8.5mm. The device carries support for 120W fast charging, which can charge it completely in just 17 minutes.


The gaming-focused device is fitted with X-axis linear motor and magnetic gaming trigger buttons with a pop-up design. It is equipped with Dolby Atmos powered quad-speaker unit by JBL. The handset offers other features dual SIM, 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, dual-frequency GPS, NFC, IR blaster, Hi-Res Audio, Hi-Res Video, a USB Type-C port, ultrawide band (UWB), and a 3.5mm audio jack.


Redmi K50 Gaming Edition pricing and availability

The Redmi K50 Gaming Edition has been announced in two variants such as 8GB RAM + 128GB storage, 12GB RAM + 128GB storage, and 12GB RAM + 256GB storage. They are priced RMB 3,299 (~Rs 39,000), RMB 3,599 (~Rs 42,600), and RMB 3,899 (~Rs 46,200). It comes in three colours silver, black, and blue.


Redmi has teamed up with Mercedes-AMG F1 Team for a special model called Redmi K50G Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team. The limited-edition model comes with 12GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and a 120W GaN charger. It will be available with a pricing of RMB 4,199 (~Rs 49,600). The company will be selling only 10,000 units of the Redmi K50 Champion Edition. The K50G and its Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Teams will go on sale from February 18th, 2022, in China.
